Completing the forms is critical
Always having the most up-to-date information about your young performer is a vital component to a successful experience. We put a lot of effort into developing efficient administrative systems that make information gathering as simple as possible. Please provide all requested information in a timely fashion. An important part of your pre-summer preparations is completing your online forms. Online forms can be accessed here.
What is a typical day at Shine Theatre Arts Project?
Well, we actually work hard to make every day at Shine Theatre Arts Project anything but typical! Our well-trained staff are enthusiastically capable of giving each young performer an awesome day – every day.
But there is certainly a routine. Our performers are organized by age group and are supervised by at least 2 staff members. They are assigned rooms (double rooms) and each floor has a staff supervisor. Meals are always eaten together with the entire group of performers in our Dining Hall, which is a great social time every day!
Morning Welcome & Flagpole activities give our young performers a chance to build community through skits, songs and performing for others. We also use this time to give out important information for the day, celebrate birthdays and other special events.
Color War is another exciting event where all our performers are assigned to teams and participate in fun activities. BBQ lunch that day is also a very special treat!

What to pack, what to wear?
As we get closer to the start of our program, a packing list will be sent to you.
Do you do laundry?
Since we are a short two-week program, we do not provide any laundry services. Students should plan on packing enough clothes to last two weeks.
Meals and snacks
It’s pretty simple – our students and staff love the food! Even our pickiest eaters will enjoy our meals because of the variety we offer. We strive to meet all our students’ dietary needs by offering a wide variety of meal options that are kid friendly and healthy. Each day’s breakfast includes a favorite such as pancakes, French toast, oatmeal, waffles, eggs or croissants. Cold cereal, fresh cut fruit, Greek yogurt, milk and orange juice are also always available. Lunch favorites include pizza, mac and cheese, chicken tenders, grilled cheese sandwiches and meatball subs. And dinner favorites are baked ziti, spaghetti and meatballs, brisket, chicken wings and turkey dinner. At both lunch and dinner, students are welcome to have fresh salad, soy nut butter and jelly and fresh fruit. Students will also enjoy a weekly outdoor BBQ with burgers and hot dogs.
Vegetarian, gluten-free and lactose-free alternatives are always available. We offer a safe environment for students with food allergies and always have a complete list of ingredients of our meals on hand. Please call us to discuss any specific food questions.
Transportation to and from Shine Theatre Arts Project
We do not currently offer any bus service to our program. It is the responsibility of each family to bring their child to our campus at the start of the program and pick them up on the last day. More details regarding the timing will be sent to you as the summer draws closer.
If your child is traveling by plane to our program, please contact us as we will work with you to make arrangements to have them picked up and dropped off by one of our experienced staff members. We want to make this experience comfortable, safe and as hassle-free as possible!
Communicating with us
One of the best things about our program is that we are communicative and responsive to all our performers and parents. We have a commitment to timely and effective communication between Shine Theatre Arts Project and our parents. Whether that’s direct communication with our owners, Leorah & Jordan, or any member of our staff who supervise areas of our program, you can count on a professional and timely response to any question or concern you may have.
Getting information to you: You can expect emails on a regular basis throughout the program. We will communicate specifically on a number of topics including special days, cookouts, performance reports, photos and much more. Please be sure to check your inbox regularly.
Also, don’t forget to follow us on Instagram & Facebook to see great pictures and videos! We love using social media platforms to tell our story!
Phone calls: From time to time, we call families directly. Our policy is to always leave a message and we encourage you to listen to that message before calling us back. By doing so, you will be able to tell our office staff who called you and this will speed up our ability to have you talk to the right person.
For our performers, phones (or any communication devices) are not permitted during our program. From experience, we find that it severely detracts from their time to interact, communicate and build relationships. We do, however, offer a phone call home each week at a predetermined day and time so you can speak with your child. That day and time will be communicated to you prior to our program start date.
Safety and our Health Center
We take safety and security at Shine Theatre Arts Project very seriously. Our staff are trained to manage and handle safety and security situations during our pre-program orientation. Since we are also conveniently located on the campus of Bard College, we have 24-hour on-site security staff monitoring and keeping us safe.
Our goal is to maintain your child’s health throughout the program. Our Health Center is staffed by experienced professionals who live on campus property and are equipped with supplies to deal with minor injuries and illnesses. Our health staff coordinate and monitor all daily medication distribution along with any as-needed medications directed to students. All over-the-counter or prescription medication (except in certain instances like asthma inhalers, nose sprays and cremes) are locked in our medicine dispensary and are only available to our students as distributed by the health staff. We have a great relationship with our local emergency service departments. If necessary, Fairview Hospital in Great Barrington is only 2.5 miles away and emergency services are available immediately.
We are your partner
We are most proud of the reputation we have for providing a fun, well-supervised and memorable experience for our performers. We are equally proud of constant commitment to working with our parents which provides wonderful ‘peace of mind’ that they have made the right choice in sending their child to Shine Theatre Arts Project. Our dedication ‘partnering with parents’ has allowed for us to maintain effective two-way communication between home and our program and has allowed us to work together productively.
At its core is open and honest communication between us all. Our application process encourages our parents to provide details about your child’s strengths and limitations in our social environment. Leorah and Jordan have built their reputations on their commitment to working with the information provided to make every child’s experience inclusive and positive.
We are always available, and you can contact us by phone or email at any time. Rest assured that information provided is kept confidential and only shared with those members of our team who need to be ‘in the know’ so that we can work together to help your child and all children at Shine Arts to have a safe and successful experience with us.
